Lead the long range planning for the business, application, data and technical architecture for the solutions in a specific domain. Ensuring all solutions within that domain work logically and coherently together. Applies enterprise principles, standards and practices serving as the conduit for influencing Enterprise Architecture direction while optimizing solutions. Responsible for decisions/priorities regarding the overall domain architecture. Translate business impacts for the domain into architectural solutions (current and target state). Develop architecture solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability and security needs. Provide technical guidance to development team. Mentor those in less senior positions.
Additional Job Description:
Provide leadership at the enterprise level for data architecture of significant projects. Serve as an expert resource to advise other teams and recommend solutions to technical design problems. Lead and/or assist in resolution of complex production problems. Mentor development of those in less senior positions.
Responsible for providing architectural, technical and business expertise and leadership to cross-disciplinary teams of FedEx IT Architects and Application Development Staff. Suggest architectural improvements, design and integration solutions, and formulate methodologies to optimize object-oriented software and database architecture. Mentor development of those in less senior positions.
Job Specific Information:
In this role, you will lead, mentor, and develop a world class IT team. As a Domain Architect, you will take direction from Business portfolio and Enterprise Architecture teams. You will be responsible to resolve new business, services delivery and engineering technical issues. The position is a mix of new business initiatives and operational stabilization. The day-to-day responsibility includes but not limited to around four core pillars:
Architectural Quality:
- Business Object modelling, Data Object Modelling
- Participate in data strategy creation.
- Enforce data strategy, architecture and governance.
- Develop, maintain and evangelize data architecture guiding principles, policies, best practices, reference architecture and standards
Enablement:
- Identify potential data services while project evaluation and reviews.
- Represent data architecture concerns in design, implementation and deployment reviews
- Provide general guidance to teams on data architecture topics
- Facilitate data architecture working sessions across solution teams
- Facilitate data architecture working sessions with infrastructure and operations teams
Alignment:
- Provide a standard common business vocabulary, maintain the data lineage documentation and champion the maintenance of the business glossary by the data stewards.
- Work on multiple projects in parallel and provide cross-program coordination and guidance of system architecture, design, integration and program planning and execution.
Communication:
- Own the Data Object Model and be responsible for the agile evolution of the model to enable the implementation of the intended business architecture. Develop and socialize data architecture principles to ensure their adoption by the application development teams.
- Build and maintain relationships with business stakeholders and partners to understand information needs.
- Lead a culture of innovation, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Knowledge/Skills considered a plus:
- Experience across all phases of data modeling, from conceptualization to database optimization.
- Experience providing direction, strategy and value by analyzing current and future states of data, setting and communicating standards, and conception of projects or features to close the gap between current state and future goals.
- Experience with implementing architecture principles and design patterns
- In-depth knowledge of Data Integration concepts, approaches, and tools and the role of data architecture in successful implementation of data integration strategy
- Hands-on experience in developing and implementing data architecture and complex data models for operational and data warehouse applications.
- Working knowledge of data modeling tools.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information Systems, business and/or equivalent formal training or work experience. Five (5) years work experience in information technology or engineering environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirement.
