At Amazon, innovation drives growth and enables us to offer our customers more types of products more conveniently and at even lower prices. The Amazon Books team is seeking a Support Engineer to improve workflows, reduce manual workload through lightweight automation.
The candidate will support production applications and services to ensure a positive customer experience that is inline with Amazon business objectives. They have an understanding and empathy for Amazon’s customers and business objectives, particularly those aspects relevant to the team and division (where “division” is an organization which can include about 150 people).
The Support engineer will continually align their work with Amazon’s business objectives and seek to deliver business value. They proactively and continually improve their level of knowledge about Amazon’s business and relevant technologies. They regularly work across multiple teams to resolve issues.
About the hiring group
The Katalyst tech team within Books has 10 Support /Application Engineers, who support 6 business teams by providing lightweight automation, workflow support.
Job responsibilities
The Support Engineer I role requires the candidate to work in a full time capacity and create tools/automation to support program and operations teams
- Understand high-level technical aspects of existing systems and services.
- Have skillset to build, develop tableau dashboard (other systems are accepted besides tableau) - by accessing data from internal systems like CloudForge, payee central and determine. These systems store data in redshift.
- Be able to work on automation projects and automation opportunities to build and support software/IT related needs
- Develop standalone tools using Java, Python, Selenium frameworks to aid operations and maintenance.
- Work on maintenance driven coding projects, primarily in Perl or shell scripts, web technologies etc.
- Provide support for incoming tickets, including extensive troubleshooting tasks.
- Software deployment support in staging and production environments.
- System and support status reporting.
- Provide product and business metrics support to stakeholders.
- Ownership of one or more systems or components
- Customer notification and workflow co-ordination and follow-up to maintain service level agreements.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ year of development or technical support experience
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
- Experience scripting in modern program languages
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field
· Experience in coding languages such as Python, JavaScript.

- Be able to work on automation projects and automation opportunities to build and support software/IT related needs
· Knowledge of Java based technologies
· Ability to write intermediate level database queries/SQL skills
· Proven comfort/experience communicating and influencing across job levels with both internal and external partners
· Proven ability to foresee potential issues, and advocate for relentless improvement
· Proven excellent analytical and mathematical skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven ability to build solutions from scratch using scripts/automation etc.
- Troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues.
- Ability to effectively capture, store, analyze & present metrics data.
- Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence by using automation and process improvements.
- Experience in a 24/7 production environment is a plus.
- Ability to retain composure under stressful conditions, communicates effectively with a wide array of individuals and gets the right things done.
