In your role, you will:
Research and Briefing
- Monitor developments as they relate to files of importance to Bombardier’s political and strategic objectives. Provide timely information and prepare briefing documents and presentations ahead of important meetings and events.
- Research on public policy, particularly respecting government industrial, innovation and economic development policies and parliamentary debates on these subjects;
- Analyze international media on trade and industrial development issues, particularly those focussed on the aviation sector;
- Ensure that developments pertaining to important files such as: the domestic political environment or the policy framework that governs manufacturing, trade, skills, innovation, defense procurement and aviation are communicated in a timely manner to key actors in the company;
- Coordinate the information gathering process from business units when requested for help with securing political support from the Canadian government for sales in foreign markets;
- Keep an expanding log of key files and contacts to be updated and monitored.
Public Service Outreach and Monitoring
- Monitoring of policy development in areas of concern to Bombardier;
- Conduct internal consultations on public policy issues of interest to the corporation, including the impact of free-trade agreements, and innovation, procurement, skills and manufacturing policies on Bombardier’s activities.
Providing liaison services to Bombardier units in their relations with the federal government both at the public service and the political level.
- Developing and maintaining a network of (federal, provincial and municipal) government and industry association contacts.
Parliamentary Affairs
- Establish an outreach strategy with Members of Parliament (at the federal and provincial levels, in particular in Quebec and Ontario).
- Manage relationship with Members of Parliament through private briefings about the corporation and issues of interest
- Support the interventions of senior officials from the corporation before Parliamentary Committees
- Monitor the Canadian Parliamentary process, providing information on recent or upcoming developments that impact Bombardier. Establish contact with Parliamentary research staff, in the event that we might want to provide them with information.
- Monitor Question Period, Parliamentary Committees, and important Government initiatives that may impact on Bombardier. Provide concise, timely reports on important developments;
- Track and monitor relevant bills or important committee hearings;
- Monitor hansards for debates or statements related to Bombardier;
- Establish and maintain contacts in Parliamentary offices;
- Keep files and other information on Parliamentarians;
- Perform other related tasks as required.
Qualifications
As our ideal candidate,
- You have a minimum of two (2) years of related experience in Parliamentary Affairs, Government
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in public affairs or a related discipline
- You have knowledge in Affairs, Public Affairs or International Affairs/Trade
- You have excellent communication skills, English and French (both spoken and written)
- You are familiar with the senior levels of Government and related institutions
- You have excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook software in a Windows environment and an excellent knowledge of social media platforms.
- You have strong analytical skills

- You have the ability to work within short deadlines and under pressure
- You are a strong team player and good communicator
